Feng Shui for Business

I was asked to speak with Jenny Woodward from ABC about using Feng Shui in business and thought that it would be good to blog about attracting more opportunities for your business.

Whilst the same traditional Feng Shui principles are used with all buildings, technology must be taken into account when dealing with Feng shui for businesses. When we incorporate form school Feng Shui we look at the "red bird" of the property. The red bird is located at the front of the building and symbolically represents opportunities.

Think about business these days, more and more people are turning to the internet to find what they are looking for so your website becomes your red bird and if it can't be found than you are missing out on opportunities. A website is such an integral part of a successful business these days and in my opinion one of the most important aspects. This of course will depend on your target market however I believe that the way technology is moving, all businesses require a website.

Some points to may want to consider are:

• When designing a new website get as many people as you can to give you honest feedback on the look and feel.
• New or old it's a great idea to get people to test links, pages, navigation and any tools on the website as you need to ensure that everything works and information is up to date.
• Make sure your pages load quickly - time is money and there is nothing worse than waiting for pages to load.
• Don't have pop up windows as these are extremely annoying.
• Make sure people can always find your homepage and contact details.
• Don't clutter your pages - make the information clear and easy to understand - Keep it simple.
• Don't use fancy fonts - use standard fonts that are easy to read.

OK - lets say that people have found your website, they like it and they make an enquiry either via email or phone......what happens next is really important 

• How do you answer the phone? It should be in a happy and welcoming voice.
• If people leave a message, how long does it take you to reply? Be prompt.
• Also, if you've received an email, how long does it take you to respond? And what do you respond with? Once again your response should be clear, concise and professional however if you are replying a week later you have probably missed the opportunity. Consider an auto reply if it's going to take longer than 24hrs to respond.

Maybe potential clients see your website and then decide to turn up to your business premises. 

• Can they find you easily? If not, this is a major problem and symbolically the Qi (energy) is also unable to find you signifying missed opportunities. Make sure your address is correct, directions are clear and use any signage you have available to you.
• Your entrance should be clear of any clutter or obstacles and made as welcoming as possible.
• If you have a receptionist, a nice welcoming smile and manner is always very much appreciated. First impressions count!
• A waiting area should be clear of clutter and inviting........up to date magazines are always a bonus.
